The view from Marguerite's Bedroom
Marguerite de Navarre, sister of Francis I, had a lovely view from her bedroom window in Chateau Clos Lucé. She could just see St Hubert’s chapel peeping between the trees. This image somehow catches the essence of Amboise and its lovely light. It reminds us of just how hilly Amboise was (still is. Rue Victor Hugo is a bit much during a canicule). It’s because of the cliffs, the Château is where it is. With the Loire lapping against its mighty walls in the early days and its 360 degrees viewpoint, it's hard to think off hand, of a better defended château on the Loire.
